Sounds rare to have it happen after two replacements. Maybe the gas cap is fine, but the thing you screw it onto is warped?

might it be that you aren't getting it all the way on? a very common problem (that mine has as well) is that the clutch mechanisms lets out too early, and it starts clicking before it really is on there. try holding on the outside, or pushing down on the top of it while screwing it on. chances are that you'll get several more turns on it.

good luck,
epi

Yes, mine has similar behavior. Like epnfrn said, if you hold the outside while you turn it (and turn it slowly), you will find that it goes on several turns past where it normally starts clicking.

Are they replacing them with the same piece or the updated version... You never know!

My cap was replaced with a new one. Grip it as if you were turning a door knob when screwing it on and make sure it clicks at least 3-4 times.

My '02 has the same problem. You can fix it by turning the gas cap using the outside circumference of the cap, instead of just the tab in the middle.

Grab the round circumference of the cap and tighten it for a few clicks. Then tighten it a few more clicks using the tab in the middle. After a few driving trips, your CEL should go off and stay off.

There have been several discussions about this topic in the past, but it never happened to me. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
