Default Dash Brightness Control and the MY04

After reading the post "Most irritating things about the S2000", I noticed that one of the gripes was fixed in the MY04.

Here is the thread: http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=168638

Anyways, CBeyond stated that the car doesn't remember the brightness setting when you turn off the car, at least when you have the brightness in "daytime" mode when you have the headlights on.

They fixed this in the MY04. I just tried it, because I thought they did. If you press the "+" button to make the brightness daytime and then turn the lights and the car off, turn them back on, the setting is still the same.

Thought I'd share.

From my model year 2000 Owner's Manual.........

p52. "...Adjust the brightness to the desired level with the headlight switch off, and also with the headlight switch on. Both settings will remain at those levels until you change them."

I knew I looked this up when I first got the car, because I drive with the lights on all the time and want a bright display. I don't have to re-set it each time.

I'm gonna post a similar reply on that other thread as well.

Regards,
Hockey

But once you turn the car OFF, it resets to default again. I believe people's complaint is that they'd like their setting to be retained from drive to drive and not have to readjust it.

I'm talking about my '03. Chadwick says '04 fixed that.

I beg to differ. As I said, I have not had to re-set it since the initial effort.
I even went outside to the car right now and did a test.

key in - check current setting - it is maxed
key in - turn on lights - check current setting - it is maxed
........pull key out of ignition completely.....
key back in - check current setting - it is maxed (still)
key in - turn on lights - check current settings - it is maxed (still)

How did I know it was maxed each time? Because I had to push the " - " button to see a change because I had no more options for brighter.

Soooooo, I don't think so.

I think what the big issue was if driving around in day time with the lights on, you have to push the button to undim the dash lights. Then when you shut off the lights, it stays lit. If you turn them back on, it dims again.

Is that what was fixed in MY04?

Yup. My 04 remembers my dash brightness setting no matter if I cycle the lights or turn the engine off or anything. I didn't realize the 03s didn't do this until reading this thread.

Everybody's interpretation of what occurs is becoming confusing so I won't post this in a bating manner...

My 02 does not change unless I make an adjustment, turning the car off and on has absolutely nothing to do with it. I dimmed my dash lights a while back coming home from a party wanting everything as dark as possible due to an oncoming headache... It wasn't until weeks later that I looked at my dash and asked why it was so doggone dim... It was because I never re-adjusted the brightness. Since I've returned it to max brightness, it has stayed there.
