OK. What quiks2k said is the complaint.

High noon, I'm headed down the road, headlights off. Dash is bright and I can see it.

Turn on headlights, dash dims automatically so I can't see it in the bright sun 'cause the top is down.

Hold + button, dash brightens so I can see it in sunlight. My headlights are on, all is good.

Pretty girl by side of road waves me over. I turn off lights while talking to pretty girl. Dash stays bright.

Pretty girl wants to experience vtec. I get back on road, turn lights back on, ahhh, dash dims again and I can't see it. Have to punch + button AGAIN to brighten dash so I can see it in sunlight.

That is people's complaint/annoyance. Same thing will happen when you shut the engine down, then restart too. (Really, you're turning off the headlights which seems to be the key.)

If you adjusted your headlights on, and headlights off dash settings to your preference, then never drove with headlights on in the daytime, this wouldn't be an issue.

I personally have an '03 but this seems to apply to earlier models too. According to Chadwick, it's "fixed" on the '04.

My 02 does not change unless I make an adjustment, turning the car off and on has absolutely nothing to do with it.

sounds like everyone is right to me. if ur default setting is max-bright, then yeah, it doesnt matter what u do, ur default will be max-bright. if u have ur default setting as something lower, which is the only way to go, cause max-bright is hideuos at night, then when u turn ur car off and restart it, it returns to ur default setting. the one at which u have it programmed but have overridden temporarily by holding in the + button. atleast this is how it works on my MY00, and from ppl's comments it doenst sound like its changed. just sounds like some ppl leave theirs on max all the time, which i could do...but wouldnt. am i missing something here?

i see a lot of confusion here, i just want to make sure that people are talking about the "Daytime" brightness setting with the headlights on, some people may not even know about this because you must hold down the + buttong to get to it. not sure about later years but in my MY01 it does remember the brightness setting, but will not remember the max daytime brightness setting with the headlights on. it will revert to whichever brightness setting you had before, but not the DAYTIME setting. for example to get that with the headlights on you must press AND HOLD the + button, and this my car does not remember, but any other brightness adjustment it will maintain.

Alpha,

Actually what you said helps me a bit. I have both day and night maxed out, so I would never notice the lack of memory from day to nite. Since they are both the same setting for me, they stay that way for each.

Now, I see that people don't always crank up the brightness at night. If that's the case, you guys are right, but I will never experience that - as I prefer it as bright as possible all the time.

and "hideous"? To each his own, I guess.

OKAY, well I feel better now that its clearer.

My 01 does it. I always run mine on the lowest possible at night or when the headlight are running.
