gonan need to do some test.. need a wiring diagram and start testing the wires thatgo in to the gauge and make sure u have power and ground.. but it might be a fuel pump being bad.. since urs is a 2000 its about 7 years.. yea it should last longer but who knows
cheers man but got it sorted.. just dissconnected/reconnected batt.. was still same.. so took it on a long spin and they gradually popped back on!!! thanks very much tho!! hopefully it doesn`t happen again!!
I had a simular problem today too. Fuel had 4 notches left, AC was on, it suddenly dropped down to empty! Kept driving after 10 mins, it went back up again...
but I'll try disconnecting the battery.

My fuel gauge (as well as most cars gauges) fluctuate based on how your car is sitting at the time... (i.e., on a hill or whatnot)
There's a fuel level sensor in your tank... it's basically just a float... but unless you're parked perfectly level, it won't read exactly correct.
On my S2000, if I'm parked with the nose down (on a hill or something) the fuel gauge will actually read higher than it should, and reverse if I'm parked with the nose uphill.
I'm sure everyone has noticed that part... so for the problems you're describing... I dunno. Thinking there's a half tank in there, and the gauge reads empty... well that just sucks.
