Default Fuel level and gauge

next thing I'm trying to learn. Does anyone know how the fuel sender and gauge work?

1) does sender output voltage
2) does the gauge work independently of the Ecu?

As I get rid of the stock dash and before I move to a fuel cell it will be difficult to check fuel level. Im hoping I can somehow tap into but need to know the working of the system.

The in tank gauge is just a simple variable resistor, at full tank it should measure 11-13 ohm and at empty 130-132 ohm.
I'm pretty sure the signal is connected directly to the dash, you should be able to connect a separate gauge instead.
Just get one that can be calibrated for your signal, for example I know Autometer does a range of programmable gauges that should work.

thanks! that's what i was looking for. I found a place that makes an input using the stock sender into the aim, but needed the ohm range. Thanks for the help.
