Default Davaluation of S2000 after wreck

I have spoken with my state farm agent and they seem to think they can repair my car. If you didn't see the pics of it after the accident, go here:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=99500
At any rate, if they do decide to repair it I am going to push for devaluation of my car due to the wreck in my settlement. Does anyone know a good reference or where experts in this area can be found? Is there any kind of rule of thumb on it? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

Don't mean to be discouraging but my personal experience with trying to get "diminished value" from State Farm was not good. Had to sue them. Also, I don't know if you said who was at fault. If it's a colission claim (your fault) it's very hard to get any insurance company to pay.

I am fighting this with State Farm right now in the State of Texas. My understanding is it varies by state. In Texas the courts have not yet rules weather or not the insurance have to pay or not. My adjuster told me to get two estimates showing the value before the wreck and after and showing the reason for the fall was directly related to the repair. I don't have a very good feeling I will get anything, but I will continue to try. It is hard to get anyone to do the estimates for you. Best of luck and let us know what happens.

I mentioned it to my agent and she didn't seem to flinch. I think the laws might be a little different in Virginia, but I am definately going to try and do some research. Thanks for the info thus far.

I knew a guy who got $7000 for his DV claim on a new Acura MDX, but it was the other guy's fault. Here in Texas, DV claims can't be made if the owner was at fault.

Are you joking? Those pics looked pretty bad. How much was the estimate to fix it? I'm glad you're ok man, and it does make me feel better that one can survive a crash like that in the S. I would push more for the total so you don't have to worry about all that other stuff. Good luck.

I am definately pushing for the total, but they decided to take it to a collision shop and do a "tear-down" to see what other damages there are to the car. So far the estimate to fix it is around 15,000. The thing is, about 90% of the body needs to be replaced, both doors need replacing, all of the front right suspension, I just can't imagine them going to the trouble to try and fix it. Everyone say a little prayer to the gods of totalled cars that they decide not to try and repair mine!

Hey Nick,

Unfortunately, from what I've been hearing from other owners, unless the frame is significantly damaged, the insurance adjuster will most likely authorize repairs up to 75% value of the car. My car was pretty bad because rear floor needed complete replacement, the passenger side frame rail was bent up and into the car, and there were several other things that bumped up the initial estimate. Has the body done a complete tear-down to see if there is any hidden damage? My initial estimate looked as though the car was repairable, but after they got the car up on a lift and pulled off all the fenders, bumper, front wheels, they found a lot more.

Let us know how it goes.

Richard,

Thanks for the info. They have not done a complete tear-down yet so hopefully by early next week I will hear the results from that. It's going to be a real pain if they try to fix this car because it will never be the same and it will probably take them 3 months to get it back together. Oh well, such is life.

Wow.....well, I hope everything goes well. If they do decide to fix the whole thing, make sure you replace as many parts with performance parts as you can At least you won't feel like it's a total waste of time then. Remind the adjuster to add in the cost of rental car for 3 months too....who knows maybe that'll put them over the cost threshhold.
