I like the Canadian idea also. Can the local Honda shop get the control module so the high beams can be used, but at the reduced brightness?

I've had drl's on gm and suzuki products. Personally I don't care for them, even though I understand why they are put on cars. I'll turn my lights on when the weather calls for it. Many people in this state that have the front drl's are given tickets in inclimate weather as they fail to turn on thier lights...so the rear lights come on. They think the front drl's are all they need, which is not the case.

so then there are cars with HIDs and DRLs.
correct.

but, if a car only has HID's (low AND high beams), then the headlights just come on automatically with ignition...they are not at a reduced brightness either.

I'm pretty sure the HID bulbs in the S2000 are not much different than the HID bulbs in the TL (except maybe D2R versus D2S connectors).. But on the TL, the bulbs are supposed to last the life of the car or damn near close to that. There are people on the TL boards who say they run their lights all the time and have well over 100k on the odometer and the HID bulbs are still kicking. The times I have heard of HID bulbs burning out sooner is due to condensation on the inside of the headlight housing.

I would guess that if you run your HIDs all the time, you'd probably get at least 100k miles out of them if not more than that. HID bulbs themselves aren't cheap .. but if you're replacing them every 100k, then ~$200 for a pair of Philips D2R bulbs isn't going to kill you.

Personally, I only turn on my lights when I need 'em .. but if it makes you feel safer to have them on all the time, I don't think you're going to be eating through HID bulbs every day.

my thoughts exactly....

i honestly do feel safer and now it's just an automatic motion as soon as i get in a car (anyone's car) - i turn the lights on.

even if they only last 50K, i don't care.....

FWIW, i put 85K on my old 2000 S2000 and the original HID bulbs were still working when i sold it.

Here's a thread on adding DRL's in the Under The Hood forum. I haven't done the mod, so caveat emptor.
