Default Daytime Running Lights

I'm in the process of imporing a 2004 into Canada. What is the best way to deal with the Daytime Running Lights issue? I have everything ready for the inspection except for DRL. Once I have the issue solved, I can go to crappy tire, get the inspection done and then plate the car.

I have read a few posts here but don't have the time to search everywhere so any advice would be much appreciated.

you can wire it yourself i suppose--just force the halogens to come on when the ignition is positive.

one possibility: you'd have to locate the headlight on/off switch (the wire) and then take a wire that turns on power when the ignition is on. one is the blue wire from your radio. then tie the ignition wire together with your headlight on/off switch. not sure if the blue wire will have enough power on its own so an amp may be needed, and im also not sure the on/off is positive-on; this is just a guess based on non-HID cars. modifry or others may have a better idea.

You are in luck. Here is a DIY I kept for myself if I ever decide to do it. Good luck and enjoy.

that link provided above is the one the rest of us canadian importers have used. It's a bit of a pain to find the parts though since it was written a few years ago.

the HAMSAR module was a PITA to find... but I got it finally from the carquest in brampton i think...

Interesting

When my car was imported from the US i guess they took the lazy route.

I bought my car in Canada from the guy that imported it.

My low beams aka the HID Projecters are hooked up to run whenever the ignition is on.

I am guessing that is the easiest way to do it but I am sure running the low beams constantly all the time is going to cause them to burnout quicker and from what I understand HID Bulbs are not cheap.

If I get really adventurous sometime I may do the proper conversion to the High Beams with the module.

Thnaks for the replies - food for thought

I have a question - is the above suggestion application to the 2004 model?

I'm still sure which way to go at this point or perhaps I should try to befriend a Crappy Tire person to pass the inspection without the DRL.
