I installed my DC Header (jet hot coated, just like shing's) this past weekend.
Impressions
Installation - Install time took a bit more than the predicted hour - basically had to run to the hardware store to get something that would work for the interim, because one exhaust bolt snapped in two. The stupid black heat sheild, I fought with it and didn't realize that the rear portion of the sheild wasn't really a 'hole' that the screw was through. ugh! That would have saved time. Other than that, if you can get the car jacked up AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE, you can get the header out, getting it in there, it takes a few minutes of tweaking it around and it goes up there - the motor mount seems to be in the way, but a few tries and it goes up there just fine. Gasket - stock gasket is a metal piece and can be reused. I'll make sure in the next day or two to re-torque these to make sure nothing has come loose - which has been my experience in other domestic car headers using fel-pro ~like gaskets.
Sound - I have stock cat-back exhaust. there's *no* sound difference what so ever because of this.
Weight - The weight reduction off of the front end is reduced where it should be, even if its a fully balanced car at 50/50 or the marketed 49/51 distribution. Stock header seemed to weigh a bit more than the 22lbs Shing measured it at, but I haven't weighed mine yet - and with the little heat shields on the header, a few more ounces should be added.
Heat - under the hood, I can't really tell, but I will say this, my right hand, resting on the console, doesn't feel the breathing hot air from the exhaust anymore. I always felt the console get very hot before, and its reduced - to what extent, or temperatures? no idea. I'm not sure it was worth the extra dollars for the jet hot coating, but anything to reduce under hood temps is a good thing for the intake.
Power - I don't really feel any difference in the throttle at all, no seat of my pants type of impressions. I will say that I can chirp 2nd to 3rd gear at will now, but I never really pushed it before - maybe it was hanging out with a few Houstooks on Saturday night that did it to me.
Dyno - Shing will have the dyno, he's got before and will soon have after numbers. I will not be having mine dyno'ed anytime soon.
Pictures coming soon.
and btw, thanks to Shing for shipping the header to Jet Hot for me.
