Default Deal or no deal?

So I found a Yellow 2001 S with 85340 miles on it for $9900. It's being sold from a family owned and operated used car dealer if that makes a difference. It's a "clean title" but I have to verify with a carfax. The car has aftermarket wheels and exhaust I think. Does not mention what kind. From the pictures provided the front bumper looks to have a paint chip and some kind of damage. Can't tell from the pictures.

KBB list it as over $13k for suggested retail value and over $11k for private. Both excellent condition prices.

So, is it a good deal based on the listed facts? Also if anyone has an open carfax account, can you help look up the car for me? The VIN is: ??????????? No car fax please...

Thanks guys and girls.

I'd say $10k is right on the money. KBB doesn't reflect market price. No one will get $13k for an 01 with over 85k on the clock. If everything checks out, buy it

Well the prices you found on KBB are for excellent condition. Doesn't sound like this car is in excellent condition. It's up to you.

Sorry about that.

Anyways do you guys think I would be able to find a similar deal in a few months? How often does the S sell for under $10k? Reason I'm asking is my lease ends in May and I want to get a car by then but not too soon. I'm just worried that I won't find a good car (not just the S) by then and be stuck without a car.

It is a good deal if you feel satisfied with the purchase, not what someone else says.

I agree 100% there will always be someone who got a better deal and there will be people who pade more. If a buyer and seller come to an agreement then IMO its a good deal.

Personally I dont by sports cars that look to have been modded, since the chances of aggressive driving are a lot greater with a car that has been modded.

I would drive the car, listen to the motor, look at Motor mounts and any visible bushings and gromments to see if they are cracking/worn, if all that checked out I would look for Vins on body panels (hood, trunk, fenders, etc) and overspray under the vehicle on exhaust or backside of wheels, under the carpet liner in the trunk and etc. (these are key indicators of the car being in an accident or having been repaired )

Carfax doesn't tell you much, only if the car was in an accident and repaired thru insurance or repaired at a facility that reports to carfax
