Default Dealer "having" to break something...

Ok, so my car is at the dealership for the axle to be repaired (there was a thread yesterday and we wont go into how dumb I am for paying them $300 for essentially the axle nut TSB)...

Anyway, they called me yesterday evening to tell me that the speed sensor was stuck and they may have to break it off to get it out. They said they are going to keep trying but they'd have to charge me for the speed sensor if they broke it. I told them to call me before they broke something because at that point I will just take my car elsewhere. Does this sound right to you guys? Is there ever a situation where the dealer can break something and charge me for it during the course of a repair?

first off, lets not turn this into a "you should have taken it elsewhere" or "you paid for nothing" threads. I have more money than time right now between work and grad school and i can't really stand to be without my car.

my service writer called honda and no love from them on helping me. i've already authorized the repair work, so getting them to pay for it now is probably water under the bridge...not sure if there is any point in that call now...any thoughts on that?

I've had multiple ABS ("speed") sensors stick in the knuckle. I don't why, it really sucks, but they're probably not BSing you unfortunately.

Why would anyone pay for something to get broken. The dealership should have to pay if they aren't competent enough to fix a problem without creating another.
