Dealer Invoice Pricing on a 2002
Guys, I did a search and didn't see that this was discussed before. I noticed that while the MSRP increased by only $100, the dealer invoice increase by about $1085. Here are the details:
2002 MSRP = $32,400 (everyone knows that now)
2002 Invoice = $29,585 (from carsdirect.com)
Destination = $440 (unchanged)
Profit = $2,815 (down $985 from 2001)
2001 MSRP = $32,300 (What most of us paid in 2001 if we were lucky)
2001 Invoice = $28,500
Destination = $440
Profit = $3,800
Looks like the dealer paid for most of the upgrades on the MY2002! Woohoo, glad to see the consumer win for once!

A beautiful example of cause and effect. Maybe the dealers would not have lost so much of their profit in 2002 if they had not been screwing the public with such absurd markups for so many years! Honda may very well have done this because they suspected the dealers would still me greedy. That is a beautiful thing to see!!!
I wasn't as fortunate as those of you that bought yours for $32+, but still got a better deal than alot of dealers were offering. I was in WA last month and a dealer there was selling 01's (only option on it was rear spoiler) for $49,000. I thought seriously about listing mine in the paper up there for $39K
Ivs2k, not sure why there is a difference in the invoice pricing that NADA has. I'll try looking around at other sources for the correct dealer invoice price. I don't really trust NADA anymore ever since they came out with 2 different books, one for the dealer and one for the consumer.
My local dealer in the SW 'burbs of Chicago has five new 01s and an 02 on the lot. He said they'd be willing to deal significantly below sticker for the 01s, and 02 at MSRP would be no problem at all.
Gotta love the snowbelt. Like motorcycles: buy in fall, sell in spring.

Edmunds shows:
2001 Invoice at $28,733 + $440 dest.
2002 Invoice at $29,146 + $440 dest.
According to Edmunds, while MSRP went up only $100, dealer invoice increased by $413. Maybe not the bargain I thought before but still pretty good. Honda could have changed the MSRP by $500 and made the buyer pay for it all.
The dealer profit is still $3,254!
Compare that to an Accord EX V6:
MSRP = $25,740
Invoice = $23,205
Profit = $2,535
Or an Insight:
MSRP = $21,720
Invoice = $20,316
Profit = $1,404
The S2000 has by far the highest profit margin in Honda's line. And the dealers charge a market adjustment!

carsdirect has pretty much gone to crap, in my opinion. I would not trust any info on their site anymore. The good deals that you used to see there are certainly long gone...
www.edmunds.com seems to be a fairly accurate source these days of MSRP, invoice, True market value, and current incentives.

charge... so most likely that destination charge is added ALREADY to MSRP and
invoice prices.
Carsdirect:
MSRP = $32,840
Invoice = $29,585
Edmunds:
MSRP = $32,400 + $440 = $32,840
Invoice = $29,146 + $440 = $29,586
Invoice prices are still off by $1.00 but... close enough.
