Dealer prep and PDI question!
I have a question to S2000 owners. When a Honda technician does an inspection(PDI) and test drives the car a couple of kms prior to the official delivery, does he run it to redline (9000 rpms)? Depending on the technician, how often would he 'VTEC' it to 9000 rpms during his test run / joy ride?
If he does, would this negate the need to drive under 5500 rpms initially since any potential wear or damage is already done? The owner's manual said not to exceed 5500 rpms before the first 600 miles / 1000 km , as discussed by previous posts. Is this that important if some technician has already had some fun with your car even before you take delivery?
I suppose one could make a special request to the technician NOT to hit 9000 rpms when preparing the new car or NO test drives prior to delivery. Whether they honour your request is up to their integrity.
Just a thought. What do you owners think?

If you possibly can, ask that your car not be driven in this manner. Cite the caveat in the manual to the service manager and insist the car not be driven except by you. Afterall. it's your car.
IMO,
no way should the tech drive the car over 5500rpm if he even drives the car at all.
I specifically told my salesman that if the tech should drive the car for the PDI that I be present. The salesman just looked at me and said they don't drive the cars. When I picked it up with 7 miles on it I was happy.
Of course they did have to drive it to the local gas station to top it off with premium.
