Our of curiosity I decided to see what I can manage in the new car to compare it to the old one ('95 Miata)...

Speed was between 65-70mph. The route was 90 miles. 12 of those miles were stop and go driving. I managed 37.3 mpg I figure 90 miles should be enough distance to eliminate the error in pump shut off and give me a decent estimate.

That's impressive to me considering the miata got 36mpg and has 400 less cc's and turns about the same rpm. So for all intents and purposes the two cars get about the same MPG, but the miata weighs 400lbs less.

thats pretty good mileage! best ive gotten is 31, ALL highway, cruising at 75.

i'd say that pump error could still be counted for, cause that's less than 3 gallons, and the pump cut off could easily be up to a quarter gallon, which would be about a 8-10% differance, so it could be anywhere from about 34-40mpg by that count, still great.

someone needs to go on a long trip with the s and do a full tank without any fun to see what it can get with full certanty.

still i'd be happy with even 30 for a rt.

i know that in my lude i got an average of 34mpg to WA and back, and that was wit some spirited passing, so i'd say with strick driving it could get about the same as well.

That's amazing mileage (at least to me it is). Was this round trip? Just wondering if mileage was enhanced by a lot of downhill driving (maybe your endpoint is at a lower elevation than your start point?). But, seeing that you're in FL I doubt this is the case.

I've owned my S for 1.5 years and 9k miles, and I haven't even hit 30mpg average for a tank yet. But then again, my driving is about 70/30 city/highway, and I've never done a highway road trip so it's tough to compare.

I the F20C & F22C -- performance when you want it, great mileage when you're just cruising.

That's impossible for me to do. I have to hit VTEC at all times.

BTW, I calculated my city mpg (yes, strictly city driving) and average 19.1 mpg. That's with hitting VTEC almost every time before shifting into the next gear.

i don't think you can get a fair number w/o doing a full tank. and a few at that...then average it out. i had a trip from texas to illinois that saw roughly 30.5 mpg each tank. probably 75 mph the whole time, and as it was my first day in the S, i hadn't really discovered VTEC yet.

37 mpg seems a bit too high! unless you had some crazy tailwind...

Did it a couple months ago driving down to south Georgia and got like 33 or 34 mpg. I was a mixture of stop and go and highway driving from North Alabama to South Georgia. Have the data saved in a spreadsheet but its on another computer.

If it helps any, I get about 26mpg in my regular commute which is about 70hwy/30city. Even with the possible error, I'd say 35mpg is attainable in this car at speeds below 70.
