Default Defective Windshield... Could it be?

I cannot get me bloody windshield clean to save my life. I've tried numerous different products, and numerous different types of rags, towels, or what have you to remove the window cleaner. I've used a clay bar, and even a damn razor blade to get it clean, but with no luck. The problem is these damn little specks for lack of a better word. I've got hundreds of little speckles on my windshield, and they're all over the damn thing and they drive me crazy! Just in case, I haven't tried absolutely everything, is there anything out there that might be able to get them out, or do I have a defective windshield. And if so, is that something that would/could be replaced under warranty? Anybody else ever experience anything of this nature?

Thanks in advance!

Brian

You can't get them out because they are actually little chips in the windsheild caused by objects hitting it. It is known that the s2k has a soft windshield that can be easily pitted

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the reply. That being said, is it something that a dealership would replace under the factory warranty? My car's only got 10K miles on it.

yes, the problem is called "pitting". i have heard of some people getting their windshields replaced under warranty, but not in all cases.

Cool, I work with a pretty good service department at a local dealership here in Orlando, so I'll bring it up with them when I take my car in to have the clutch replaced. I just can't believe that the windshield gets "pitted" that easily. It seems to me that a stone or something like that would be what's hitting the windshield to cause this. But I know that can't be the case, and my windshield is literally covered with these "pits" or specks as I call them, from one side to the other and from top to bottom. There must be literally hundreds of them.

I think that soft glass thing is an urban myth. I've read in other threads where the glass guys say auto glass is auto glass. If anything it may get pitted more because it sits more upright than a lot of cars. My Jeep Wrangler windshield is a flat surface that sits almost vertical. I get 10 times more dings and chips than in the S.

It's nothing to do with "soft glass"

Just as Smokee pointed out happens to his Wrangler, the windshield on the S is pretty upright in the airstream. The car is also lower to the ground than the average car, also subjecting the windshield to more flying crap. The hundreds of impacts with flying debris, big and small, are what cause the pitting on the windshield.

Soft windshields are a safety feature. If you want a good, firm windshield, buy a car from the 60's or early 70's.

And remember to never be in a wreck in the car with an older windshield. Those were designed to remove your face. Your S2000 "soft" windshield will be your friend in a head-on collision.

Put up with the chips until they drive you silly and then replace the windshield.

End of story. Someone lock this thread.

Criminy. Defective windshield?
That's like saying the SO-2 tires are defective because they don't last 50,000 miles !

Consider the design goal and then see if the product meets that goal. Just because it doesn't meet YOUR goal, doesn't mean it is defective.

If you want a vehicle with a windshield more protected from chips, buy a different vehicle.
