Defective Windshield... Could it be?
Need4spd28,
I've always called this "sand pitting", basically happens from any sand blowing around and hitting your windshield at highway speeds and leaving tiny chips in the glass.
In Florida your insurance company is required to cover windshield replacements 100% for safety. I have had a windshield replaced due to sand pitting under this rule (in a previous car). Severe sand pitting can turn into a safety problem because it gets hard to see through the windshield when the sun is low on the horizon. It just kind of lights up orange/yellow on all of the chips. You can have yours replaced on their dime if/when it gets that bad. If it's not that severe and you just replace it for cosmetic reasons, you're on your own to pay for it.
Barry,
See, there was a reason to keep this thread open!!!

That's covered under comprehensive which almost always has a deductible. My deductible is $250. What does it cost to replace the windshield?
If Florida is different in this respect, I wasn't aware of it.

Some states require that insurance companies pay 100% for windshield damage. Soft glass? Glass is glass they put a layer of plyable plastica matterial in the glass to prevent it from being sharp when it break "safety glass" Thank god for that or you'd be killed /injured when it breaks. Either way the stone chips are stone chips that any windshield would get but we're more likely to get them because of the angle of the windshield
