Default defroster switch question

does anyone here have the rear defroster switch that goes opposite of the cruise switch? if so, does it click in like the cruise does? im wondering because i just got that switch to wire up some foglights, but it doesnt click. if you push it in, it just springs all the way back out when you let go of it, no clicking. but with the cruise switch you push it in, it clicks and only comes out a little, then you push it in again, it clicks again and comes all the way out.i havent had a chance to install it yet, but im wondering if maybe the switch is bad before i take the time to hook it up.

IIRC the defroster springs the whole way back out because it's on a timer. ie: it will switch off automatically after a period of time, so the switch has to be in the off position ready to go again.

Here's how you do it:
Gut the defroster switch. It's just a custom switch with parts that slide and make electrical contact. You can figure out how to disassemble it in a few minutes.
Use a dremel and clean up the parts that will interfere with the new switch that you will glue inside.
Get a DPST push on/push off switch from RadioShack or partsexpress.com. Wire it up and glue it inside the defroster switch body. The wiring is simple if you can already figure out how to hookup the defroster. Buy a new socket/plug set from RadioShack so that you can mount your switch easily. Use a heat gun to desolder the wires if necessary.
To get the insert out of the dash, drill a hole in it, put in a screw and yank on the screw with a vise-grip, using the screw as a handle.
Pop in the new switch after connecting up your socket/plug.

thanks for the help, i just finished wiring up the switch. i was actually able to get the "clicky" part out of the cruise switch and dremel a copy of it, added a spring and a correctly formed staple, and i got the click function working. as far as teh switch part, i basically did what you told me, i gutted another switch and put it in my new defroster/fog switch, and it works like a charm.
