Delicate shifter or Ramming it in?
I don't know what the big deal is about chirping tires from 1st to 2nd - I can do it in my Honda Accord and it's got 100 less hp than your car (nearly). BTW, I find that an easy motion allows easier speed shifting than a ramming motion - it's also easier on the car.
Gently. Can someone define "notchy" for me? On the 2-3 upshift it feels like a tooth is just catching, but there's no kickback through the shift lever or grinding.
Is this a notch? It's smooth above 8,000 rpm. this only seems to happen at lower revs.
I'm new, so sorry if I'm asking stupid questions. I read the thread about the 1-2 upshift, but there's no problem there.
Anyway, maybe I'm still getting used to my S2000. I've had it less than a month.

"Notchy" is basically when a shifter feels very solid in this fashion: takes a little effort to pull it out of gear, it is a direct and fast transition to the next gate, and just before it goes into gear, you need to put a little more effort into it. There's a little resistance at both ends, the starting and destination gears.
To most people there's three shifter feels:
1. Sloppy. Like a stock Volkswagen. Long throws, feels like the shifter will fall off in your hands.
2. "GT." Probably a nice short shift, but the throws are nice and smooth.
3. Notchy. Possibly a shorter shift, something along the lines of, oh, say my car with my Kartboy shifter and urethane shifter bushings.
Very positive throws, but not very smooth.
The S2000 I'd say is somewhere between #2 and #3, if you ask me. Honda makes some of the absolute best gearboxes in the world when they put their minds to it (i.e. S2000, Integra Type-R, new Civic Si dash-mount). Short, smooth, flawless, but just the right amount of notchiness to feel really cool.
Notchiness is usually a good thing.
I will have to put up a warning though... I've received a Report on this thread about the sexual comments.
Please folks, back off on that crap. This is sort of a superfluous thread, but it's not malicious. Yet. Don't let it get that way.
