When people say things about the S2000 only being a 4 cylinder you could respond with:

1. The Lotus Elise/Exige is only a 4 cylinder and it runs circles around corvettes on all types of race tracks.

2. The Kawasaki ZX-14 is a 4 cylinder street bike and will run the 1/4 mile faster than the McLaren F1!

I don't care how big my S2000's engine is. It goes through the curves like a knife through butter and is more fun to drive than most big V8 domestics. The C6 Z06 is the only V8 powered domestic car I would driver over the S2000 if I could afford to.

 

the only thing i would add is the fact that honda still acknowledges that the del sol and the s2000 are hondas first and only 2 roadsters. and i have a del sol as well and it may have taken a lot of modification but my del sol would whoop any stock s2k or almost all n/a modded s2ks asses on the drag or circuit track. its all about what you do to it. oh and btw i think the del sol is just as beautiful a car as the s with some work as well. you gotta remember the del sol was not made in the same class as the s2000. it was built to embody a crx roadster. hence the name honda crx del sol! but still the crx is beautiful. i have yet to see a car that honda made that i think is ugly( besides the civic sedan and the older coupes).

I generally don't listen to what anyone else says about my car. Most people don't know shit about their own cars, let alone other peoples cars.

 

ehhhh mustangs are the quintesential slow ass car that everyone over rates.

The problem is that the S2000 is mis-represented. There are people that over rate the car so much that other people don't believe them and are forced to under rate it....if that makes sense.

There's a very few "moderate" people when it comes to S2000s. The car is medium quick, I'd say. It's still a solid high 13 sec. car right out of the box.

The new mustang is around 300hp? But it weighs like 3600lbs or something insane.

That's 12lb per hp.

The S2000 sits at around 11.67lb per hp.

The Mustang is probably marginally faster from a stop. From even a low speed roll, the 2 cars are pretty much identical in straight line acceleration.

As far as drag racing goes, though...the S2000 is much more difficult to drive and is most likely going to go slower with a typical driver.

This is the same reason why people think EVOs and STIs are so much faster around a track than the S2000. I've found that they're slower than the S2000 on a lot of tracks if there are 2 competent drivers involved...but are just easier to drive.

For today's standards, I think the stock S2000 is trying to play in a league that it can't compete in. Cars like the 370Z or BMW E92 M3 or 135i came out in around the same price range and are laying waste to the S2000 in every contest of speed. The S2000 is a essentially a 10 year old chassis design. The fact that it held it's own in such a competitive field till now is amazing.

Maybe that's why they don't make them anymore, though lol.
