I always thought the S2000 was the lovechild of a del Sol and an NSX

I thought of a cool idea for a commercial. We start off with a Del Sol driving slowly down a winding road. In the distance you hear the sound of an engine reving in near the redline. Cut to the dash of the NSX with the needle bouncing off the rev limiter. Zoom out to a bird's eye view of the road. Cut back to the Del Sol then seconds after the NSX crashes into the Del Sol in bullet time. And in the wreckage a S2000 emerges and speeds off down the road. Lol.

There are actually some very small Del Sol esque hints in the S2000.

Take the radio door, for example. Those are found only in the Del Sol and S2000. No other Honda has them.

The 2 seater platform is another big thing along with a removable roof.

Also the side mirror design isn't found on any other Honda except the S2000 and NSX and Del Sol.

I could see where people got their mis-information.

My friend thought that the S2000 was the evolution of the Del Sol. I disagreed. The Del Sol evolved from the CRX...and then turned into the insight.

Not knowing that the S2000 came from the S600 and S800 is being short sighted....or misinformed.

Maybe there were a few styling ques from the Del Sol, though. You do have to admit that. Look at the profile pictures posted above and tell me you don't see a resemblance.

The integrated head-rest seats and the way the dash wraps around the driver seem common between the del Sol and S2000. There's going to be a lot of shared parts/designs/engineering between all Honda/Acura models. The difference is obviously in the chasis design and drive-train layout as those are unique to the S2k (at least within the Honda family).

I specifically remember reading a magazine article back in the day before the S2000 went on sale that stated that the new S2000 was a successor to the del Sol.

I want to say it was either Road & Track or Motortrend.

well the article said that the s2k was the successor to the del sol. but not that it would be modeled in its image. but there are def a few similarities in the interior. and some of the body designs as well.
