The Demise of Honda
someone mentioned the mazda millenia...
well, a little tidbit for ya: in europe last year, the total sales of the millenia s equalled precisely 1.
that makes it positively rarer than the 550 barchetta...

oh yeah, honda wins in karting also: their XR80/125s (from dirtbikes) power most of the champions
sure, honda doesn't compete with nissan or toyota (the other japanese brands arent worth emntioning), but this info does add to their credibility as being performance-oriented...
Ford: Built Ford Tough (as in it'll pull out that annoying tree stump, but that's pretty much it)
Chevy: Like A Rock (as in the handling of a blind jellyfish on a skateboard with square wheels)
Toyota: Everyday (as in boring)
Nissan: Driven (simply that, they're driven. they're one notch above walking, but only just)
Honda: The Power of Dreams (it means whatever you want it to mean)

HondaGuy347 mentioned the "trick steering" of the JDM S2000. actually, i think the JDM s2000 is only different from US models in the engine - higher compression of 11.7:1 (i think?) for 250bhp. (Slap a turbo on that and you'll REALLY be changing headgaskets on a daily basis.) the S2000 type-V, however, has VGS (Variable Gear-Ratio Steering, or something along those lines). but from what i hear it's WORSE than the original steering; the VGS makes the steering twitchy, unresponsive, and unpredictable.
but, that's only hearsay, and i've no first-hand experience... anyone with an S2000-V?

am i the only one that thinks the Civic Si should be compared to the Focus ZX3 rather than the SVT? the Si is simply a trim line to the Civic, while the SVT Focus is specially-prepared by Ford's in-house tuning firm; it's a one-off.
compare the SVT Focus to a Mugen-ized Civic Si, then i wouldn't complain... but until then, please quit quoting these comparos. the fact remains: the Civic Si is simply another trim line designed to be daily-driver-friendly with its all-season tires and rather posh ride; the svt focus is "supposed" to be a hardcore conversion for an otherwise un-awe-inspiring boring little car with crap for an engine.
i guess you can compare it to a GTi, as well, though I believe a fully-equipped Si is still cheaper than a base GTi? (I'm just assuming...)

The demise of Honda? Ha Ha, is it April Fool's day!
They may not please you, but they meet the needs of the buying public about as well as any other automaker, and much more than most.
Don't forget, they also kick ass in motorcycles (their current product lineup is easily the best it has ever been), boat motors, lawnmowers, and PWC's.
It's a lot easier to criticize Honda's actions than it is to outperform them. Also, it's important to realize that mgmt. is obligated to optimize returns for their shareholders, which thankfully often results in great products at a great price as a byproduct.
