After reading under the subject S2000 vs. ?, I realized that I didn't look at any other car when I went for my S2000. I had read about the car a year ago, then saw it at a local car show. Asked for a demo drive, and the dealer took me out several days later.

After 5 minutes in the car, the guy shoved the pedal to the floor in 2nd., then 3rd., then 4th. gear! I was frozen in my seat!!
I then drove it on neighborhood streets and was thrilled with the steering, gear shift, etc. The hands on + the daredevil demo by the dealer did the trick for me!

What are other people's experiences from the dealer's showroom?

After reading everything I could about the car, I made an appointment with a saleman. Called in the morning and was at the dealer and hour later. Saleman took me out in a demo with 11,000 miles on it, drove out of the dealership and pulled over so I could drive. He told me not to hold back, so I didnt. Took it up to about 8400 rpms in 1st, 2nd, 3rd (on the highway) and realized then that I must have this car. I bought a new one a couple days later from another dealer (they had the color I wanted - white).

Demo drive??? No way...the dealer said I could test drive it on my way home after I paid for it. They would go for the test drive bit, said they can sell every one they get without allowing test drives.
It didn't matter much to me...I had read every article on the car since Honda decided to give it the green light.

Jim - I hope that test drive wsa after the break in period (600 miles)...or else, its really demo'ed!

I took a ride in Tex_s2k's red/black - I sat in the passenger seat for about a quarter of a mile and then we headed back to the restaurant where we had our s2k meet (sept). Other than that, I got to sit in one a few months before that. So, I didn't drive the car, nor had I really taken any test drives / demo drives in one before I bought it. When I bought the car, I flew out of state and signed all the papers, they opened up the show room floor door and off I drove back to Texas. That was my first time to drive the s2k. It was a great experience in buying my first 'new' car.

Inquired about waiting list - 12 months. Gave $1,000 down to be on list. Deal fell through on a car as I was standing there. Offered to buy car, sales manager said there was a waiting list of 17 peeps. Young salesman came back and asked sales manager who to call first, as no one had silver as their first choice. I hadn't specified..so I said "Oh by the way I'd like Silver". Dealer opened car door and said "I guess you'ld like to drive it first". Picked it up smae night! Outstanding.....12 mile on the ODO.

The car I was taken out in was one that had been used by the press. It was WELL broken in. I didn't know anything about the engine "changing strokes" over 6,000 rpm, but I certainly noticed all hell suddenly broke out at a certain point!

By the way, I had to fight tooth & nail to get the demo ride (& was surprised they actually gave the wheel over to me once away from the shop!). They gave me a big song and dance about how all the kids would want a demo. I just said "do I look like a kid?", handed them my business card & walked away saying "call me if you want to sell a car"!
Being cheeky worked! :>

I was #1 on the waiting list at my dealer and I knew the week the first two units came in that I would be one of the few allowed to test drive the car. (only the first 10 people were asked in to test drive the cars, as they were only expecting 3-4 units) I took the general manager's Blk/Blk along with him in it for a 30 minute screaming drive in the Berkeley Hills. Came back and said I want one, but you can sell mine to someone else for what you'r asking. In return, I got a few free services and freebies, and I git a cheaper one in Silver black! Win-Win situation!

Oh yeah, I got mine Oct 99. MY2000 #1439

I've told my story before but here it is again. I went into the dealership and put down my deposit. ofcourse after reading all the fan fare from magazines. I felt that sight unseen this was probably the best value out there. So 9 months later my S2K is ready for pick up. My Dad drives me in and as we round the corner thier it is!!! It was the first time I had seen one in real life. I was blown away after driving like a grandmother the 25 miles to work I had a smile on my face that wouldn't quit. After a few hours my bosses told me to "get lost" since I wasn't doing any work but rather reading my owners manual and pulling out various employees to drool over it I took off and drove like there was no tommorow. I never regretted my decision even though I signed away 50k for a car I had never driven let alone seen. so thier ya go. If I did have a chance to drive it my decision would have been the same, but I would have been more impatient then I was
