My dealer didn't give me any problems when I requested a test drive. It was the dealership owner's blk/blk. Just had to have a copy of my father's DL (he drove it first) and my DL.

He should've checked to see if I knew how to drive stick though. A demo S2000 is a great car to learn on.

The dealer here wouldn't allow test drives. They said that they had sold every one (3) sight unseen and that buyers wanted as few miles as possible on them. I bought it three days later with 10 miles on the odo.

How About this one! I test drove the one I own now when it had 7 miles on it, they let me take it BY MYSELF, with NO COPY of my license . . . just gave me a tag and said, Have fun . . . ummmm I couldnt get it into reverse, LOL

Been more than a year of fun with it and 25,000 miles

OH yeah, I had only put down 50 bucks to be 4th out of 5, heh heh

A copy of your driver's license is not required to test drive a car in the US. The dealer uses this ploy to run a credit check while your out so they know what they're dealing with when you get back. If they require a copy, specifically require they not use it for a credit check. Get this in writing! If you test drive 6 cars and buy none, your credit report will show six checks with no credit issued. Future lenders will wonder why?

Our local dealership did not even allow anyone to sit in the car. They had a guard rail around the car! Finally found a car in Minnesota for MSRP. My drive home to Florida was my test drive!

After reading all of the reports and articles, I sat in a few at various dealerships in NJ. . . No dealerships allowed a test drive. One Honda dealer who's name I won't reveal (but they're located on Bloomfield Ave in West Caldwell ) actually wanted $1000 non refundable for a test drive AS A PASSENGER !! What made it even worse, when I called Honda of North America to complain, they stated that individual dealerships could do what ever they wanted to protect their cars!!!

Needless to say I didn't buy my car there. . . Anyway, after test driving the SLK 2.3 and 3.2, BMW Z3 2.8, and pricing out the Boxster (they would have let me drive one, but they didn't have an automatic in stock & I didn't want to abuse a stick during a test). . . I stuck with the S2K. . .

First day I drove one, was the day I picked it up It was just like getting into my old Accord or my Prelude. . . except better

I was looking at SUVs for the ol lady and lo and behold, right there on the showroom floor behind barriers was the most beautiful
black S2000. I said "you have one of these" and the salesman said "yes and it just became available 10 minutes ago and you are the first person to look at it." After a credit check to make sure I qualified, they let me sit in it to make sure I fit. No test ride, just took it home. The dealer would not let anyone except the senior lot boy in the car or move it. The next day I returned to the dealers and while pulling in the driveway a guy looking at a Prelude got down on his knees and started bowing at me.
