Depreciation Rate
Does anyone have a formula of depreciation for the S2000.
This would obviously be based on a generic value of mileage and car condition, but I would like to get an overall idea of what the cars will be worth 2 or 3 years from now...
I was thinking of just getting the depreciation rates of the last few years and then going from there.
Any input?

I don't know about S2K for depreciation, but I do know that automotive depreciation isn't linear, and it usually follows an S curve.
that means that depreciation is quick in the first year or two. It slows down in the middle years and then at a certain point, it just doesn't really depreciate that much (although over time everything will depreciate...just not as fast).
for example, my first car was a 92 honda civic hatch back. It was 10K when I bought it. The moment I drove it off of the lot, it was worth 9K, after about 5yrs it was worth 5K, but 10yrs later (15 total), it was worth $2500-$3000. Yeah, there are some cheap EGs out there. There's always exceptions, but for a relatively clean EG it still costs about $3K today for a car that originally cost in the range of $10K - $14K
My guess for a car like the S2K is that you'll see them fall to about 10K quickly (early models are already in the neighborhood...maybe 3-4 more years for the AP2s), but as enthusiasts and/or collectors start picking up all the clean S2K's prices will stabilize and possibly even rise a little.
that being said, even though I love my AP2, I have a hard time believing that it will become collectable. There were just too many made.
anyway, I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to pick up a dirt cheap (sub 5K) 2002-2003 AP1 (GPW) just for the track.

I do not know the formula, but I'd imagine the depreciation rate is much different for an S2000 than the average car.
...Plus I'm sure you'll find that S2000 owners never follow what their car is really worth when they attempt to sell them. Always count on a few thousand being shoved onto a KBB price.

yeah its kind of a a wack market for us people who cant afford a new s2000.
people like to play the honda reliability card + the "gangsterness" of the s2000 to jack up the prices.
but, its difficult to invest in car that you KNOW has been driven hard. people deny it, saying that they baby their cars and all but come on, lets be real... s2000 owners have loads of fun with their ish.

S curve hehe...get it?
Hondas appeal to a HUGE range of people. just look at the Civic compared to the Corolla. People want the civic, whether its my 80 year old grandma or my thug next door neighbour. if you can do that youve created great demand and want and the S is no different. let the resale value soar!

Dude couldn't help noticing the last line of your sig. What happened to your license?

Upside to that is I'm saving to buy an S cash the day I get the license back!
This is why I'm trying to develop a solid game plan of how much I'm going to have to save...
I've still tinkered with the idea of building another K series EK or maybe even the cleanest CRX ever.
Who knows at this point, but I am definitely leaning towards another AP1.
i was thinking about this...it's crazy cause it seems like s2k value right now is almost same as a rsx...and their msrp difference must've been over 10k.
say an 06 rsx s goes for like 17-18k...06 s2k similar condition is like 20k...
or 02 rsx s goes for 11-12k...02 s2k also goes for around 12-13k...
so it seems like s2k has pretty bad depreciation...or rsx has really good depreciation?
