Default Differences on AP2 vs AP1

Sorry I really did a search for awhile but cant find any definitive facts. I would really appreciate the help.

What is the difference between the ap1 vs. the ap2? Does anybody know all the little nitches? Does the ap2's light/bumper fit right onto the ap1? Maybe im blind but is there a difference in the silverstone color? For some reason the ap2 looks different from what Ive seen before.

Is this the stock shift knob for ap2s?

Is that wind deflector or whatever also stock?

Im sorry but im kinda looking at buying an ap2 from some guy and there are some weird "red flags." Is there anyway people actually can transplant ap1 to look almost like an ap2 and do all that VIn switching ? I know it sounds like a lot, but is it possible?

Besides the window/door jam/ engine where are the VIns located? Is there anywhere visible that its etched in? (not just stickers). Better yet is there somewhere I can go or look up to see if the vehicle is actually THE VEHICLE? I mean no liens or bad history or anything. (besides carfax). Will a honda dealer do an inspection to make sure everything adds up?

SOrry i dont want to sound paranoid but I just want to be on the safe side.

BTW does a seatbelt lock if the airbags are deployed? How much would a seatbelt run for?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

yes and yes as to your photo questions. That is the stock shifter and the air block is stock. However, it is not unusual for people to put in a different shift knob or put in a larger wind block.

Look at the engine, what does the spark plug cover look like -- AP2s have a gold cover stock and the older models have a black cover.

The other thing to look at is the redline -- does the car redline at 9000 RPM or around 8000 RPM.

Are you thinking someone is taking an older S2000 and then making it look like a newer S2000?

like karwath said, look at the engine and the dash. black spark plug cover = ap1, gold cover = ap2.

AP2 dash:

As I am sure many AP1 owners on this board will tell you, the AP1 is a better car, so why would anyone want to make their AP1 look like an AP2?

J/K as a MY05 owner, I just had to add that!

look at the steering wheel also, the center console, and the VIN. after the first 3 letters it should say ***AP2.

For a guy that owns a MY2000 you sure do have a lot of questions.

check it.

ap1, is episode 1, the beginning, and it is still THE s2000.

with ap2, you get a few subtle differences.
we will start with the engine, the cylinder walls are different material now. the flywheel weighs more now. the crankshaft was stepped up from 84 mm, to 90.7 mm. and it has .1 more compression. and a gold color spark plug cover.
the trans, has a lower reduction gear off of the mainshaft. wider gears (more face contact). carbon fiber (wrapped, laced, impregnated) whatever you wanna say synchros. larger companion flanges at trans and engine, larger driveline and the bolts that hold it to the companion flange. a delay valve to combat shock on the drivetrain. and supposedly (havent proved it to myself yet) a slightly redesigned diff housing.
as for the car, you can see the obvious body changes, different bumper skins, different door panels (more shoulder room) and different radio door, and different cluster, with clock in display.
now as for the suspension, they changed quite a few things. the body of the car is supposedly stiffer by like 12%. but it doesnt end there, they redesigned just about everything under the car, for A the larger wheels, and B the rediculous snap oversteer that the old car experienced. the suspension has different connecting points, so the control arms are different for sure. the struts, i havent been able to find info, but they are different in dampening from what ive been told. the sway bars are softer. basically they stiffened the front of the car, and softened the rear, to make it more predictable. they also changed the ratio of the steering rack, to aid with the new wheels. all this comes together to make what is arguably the best s2000 ever produced. but you will always have the die hards who like the old version. to each his own i say. until you test drive a broken in ap2, then your marriage is over. LOL. laters. and anyone who has more info to add to my story, do chime in. as its nice to know the small stuff about ones car. hasta
