Difficult hood and trunk latch
#1
Now I may be paranoid but the hood latch and the trunk latch on my s2000 is defective. Is it the car in general or does everyone have a problem closing the hood? I almost have to slam the damn thing shut before the latch catches. I certainly don't drop it as the manual suggest. Although the trunk is much better, I do notice that one out of five times, it just bounces back open. Any thoughts? By the way , I have the 2001 model.

The hood is aluminum so it's quite light. Hold it about a foot to 18" and drop it. If it doesn't shut the dealership might need to adjust it. Mine shuts quite easily from that height. As far as the trunk I've never had a problem nor heard of anyone having one. But it can be easily adjusted by the dealer.

CAUTION!!!! Do not push on the hood. Do as the manual suggests and drop it. It's very light aluminum and you can damage it by pushing on it. The best solution is to have it adjusted next time you get your oil changed.

What ever you do, don't push on the hood since it

I had some trouble with the trunk not latching sometimes - I would inadvertently find my trunk was still open after I got home from the supermarket. Guess I was going fast enough to keep the trunk down. I also heard some wierd metallic clunking sound when I opened my trunk like 2/3 of the way open. I narrowed the problem down to these 2 small bars at the back of the trunk that crisscross. I fiddled with them a bit to align them better and the clunking went away. Hope that helps!
Oh, and drop the hood.

This topic has been done in several other threads. Just turn the rubber bumpers on either side of the latch with plyers until the hood latches easily with an 18" drop. Piece of cake.
Also, try searching next time you have a question. There is an amazing amount of information in older threads.
