Default Dipstick oil analysis - am I crazy?

Here is an interesting article that answers a few questions that pop up here now and then, and also how to use the dipstick as an indice of possible engine problems.

i dont understand why some people say to check the oil when the engine is warm, and some say its better to let the car sit overnight to allow all of the oil to drain down to the oil pan.

Me neither, I just check it in the morning cause I know all the oil has drained down from the head and such.

It isn't as aromatic when cold - like a cheese or a good red wine.
So you miss out on smell diagnostics.

The amount that drains back into the pan after about 10 mins is not a big deal.
