my s2000 came with solid front discs instead of vented ones. Is this standard and will this effect the breaking efficiency of the car? Any input would be appreciated.

Are you sure they're solid? That woudl really be interesting.

By "vented" front discs, they mean two solid plates seperated by vanes, which make channels, or vents, for cooling air to pass through. You have to look at the discs from the edge to see this.

They don't mean cross-drilled or slotted.

The rear discs are solid, however.

Hope this helps...

By vented, I meant that the front discs should have circular holes through the surfaces contacted by the discs verses a smooth continuous surface. The demo model I saw in the showroom did have "perforated" front discs when viewed side-on. Do these "perforations" help wrt handling, cooling, wear etc.?

the showroom model must have had a brake kit or aftermarket rotors. The stock car comes with "solid" vented rotors; not cross-drilled or slotted.

If you are going to race the car, cross-drilled rotors should be more fade resistant (better heat dissapation), but for everyday driving you are not going to see any increased performance. For street use, it is strictly a "cosmetic" modification. I myself like the look and may eventually buy some direct replacement cross-drilled rotors, just for looks.

RM Racing sells a set of 4 slotted stock replacement rotors for just under $600; I think somebody else sells a replacement cross-drilled rotor set, but can't remember who.
