Default Disengage the ABS

I dont know about the rest of the world but I am not happy with the ABS.
I am very satisfied how the car stops at high speeds but this has do with S's large brake discs.
I am sure that everyone has experienced going really slow and with a sudden press of the brake, the ABS is engaged and the car slips unreasonably for several meters. The risk is higher when the road itself slips or its dusty.

Since S is consider to be one of the few left sport cars where you can enjoy ''pure driving'' having no electronics to interfere between you & your car, why on earth do we need the ABS??

Anyway, I would be very interested if someone can post how/if this can be done.

Thanks

Look in the owner's manual for the ABS fuse(s). Pick one that doesn't have another function associated with it and pull it. No more ABS.

I've found few reasons to disable it on the street. I rarely activate it and, if it does activate, I can use it as info about available traction. If it's slippery, I simply slow down...

Of all the consumer level driver's aids ABS is the most useful and least intrusive. The only situations where it really hurts you is when you're trying to get the shortest straight line stop on loose material, like gravel or snow. One of the few times that a four wheel lockup is preferable for shortest stopping distance.

Hey, some people think that the electric power steering is a useless driver's aid interfering with driver feel.

I've only activated it a few times once or twice when trying to get a book out from under the seat and a few times when I was airborne, hit the brake a tad late coming up a hill and damn it feels funny to have the ABS kick when your airborne.

I've never quite understood why anyone would want to do this. I can understand it with a stability control program that won't let you power slide the car or something but not ABS. At the very least, ABS let's you reach a maximum braking effort with a much better chance of maintaining directional control of the car. As Fongu rightly points out, there are some limited situations where ABS is a detriment to acheiving the shortest stopping distance but really guys, how many of you go racing around on gravel roads or in the snow with your S2000?

I have read situations where some race car driver was able to stop a non-ABS equipped car faster than the same vehicle with ABS was able to stop. It can be done, but it was also under controlled, ideal conditions and it always took the guy several trys to do it. Put that same professional driver in less than ideal conditions, like wet pavement, and the ABS equipped vehicle will out perform him "every" time. It's that "oh sh*t" situation, especially in less than ideal conditions (and how often to we really drive in ideal conditions?) that ABS can save your bacon. Of course you have to keep in mind that it absolutely will not compensate for the driver being an idiot. You still have to drive for the road conditions you're in.

If this is something you feel you just "have" to do, go for it. It's your car and your life but (and I mean no offense here), don't expect a lot of sympathy when you lock all four wheels (probably "very" easy to do on an S2000 without ABS!) and spin the car into a phone poll or somethng.

Best of luck to you!
