Excellent, J. The little white box is ugly, but I could live with it. Too bad it doesn't come in a black color.

Anyway, I'm making the call!

J!

thanks for the pics and everything! i'm glad to hear it's an OEM part and something bastardized to work.

i agree though -- the white factor is a bummer... you'd think they could have done something about that... i wonder if you could work w/ the dealer (pre-install) to get it painted black? i'm sure jcavalie could probably pop up that double sided tape and do a little painting w/ a brush if desired....

You gents are correct - I may still paint it.

I agree it is ugly, but not as bad as it could be. Unfortunately, the camera flash on the gray plastic brightens it a bit more than it really is - it is definitely a battleship gray color, not white.

I'll try to retake the picture with no flash and natural light this weekend. Either way, it could be painted pretty easily, I think.

Great pics Jim! In addition to painting it, would it be feasible to move it down (say into the footwell) where it is still visible, but not so conspicuous? My existing switch/indicator is located near where an adult passenger's right knee is. Even if the dealer won't move it, perhaps the owner could?

I suspect it is possible to move, but I have no idea how hard it would be to do.

They installed it where their instructions said to - and I suspect that is all the dealer will do given the liability issues with these things.

I'd just paint it black.

Update: My paperwork is faxed into NHTSA. The process is underway. The real hitch will be to see if AHM can convince any dealership in my vicinity to install it.

J, did you ever end up painting the box? I'm going to ask if it's available in other colors. Is the box secured to the dash, BTW?

Update: permission form received back from NHTSA in yesterday's mail. Took less than a week from the time I faxed in the request!!! Way cool.
