Do any cars have autocross capabilities comparable to the S2000?

Default Do any cars have autocross capabilities comparable to the S2000?

My friend and I wanted to organize an S2000 Vs S4 autoX since he is an S4 owner. I went to audiworld.com to try to gauge interest in such an event and I was flamed beyond belief! They all called me stupid for wanting to race S4's against S2ks because we would tromp them. I have never driven my friend's S4, but he is a racer (shifter karts, vintage race cars, etc) so I figured if he wanted to race against me, he would know if he had a chance. Since no S4 owners wanted to participate, are there any other cars that would perform about the same so we could create a fun and competitive AutoX for bragging rights?

A relatively stock 3rd generation RX7 (FD3S) should be a good match.

Thats kind of a rare car, though, at least around here. Im trying to find something with a fairly large amount of owners, not necessarily miata-large, but enough that we could find some interest.

Are you kidding?? There's TONS of cars that have autocross capabilities comparable (and better) to the S2000. My friend drives a 94 Civic. He's beat me at all 3 events we've been to this year. With 70 hp. He is within a second or so of the better-than-I S2000 drivers too. Of course he also has $4000 into the suspension, no interior, and weighs ~2000 pounds. The S2000 has lots of competition. Vettes are pretty good stock competition, C4s at least. C5s are pretty tough to beat if they're driven well. Plenty of Vettes to go around.

porsche boxters are a very good match, if you dont believe it check out the cars in the stock class nationals, i believe there 49 s2000s and 1 boxter, the boxter won! mack(a good auto-xer on this board) said it was the extra amount of torque that gives it the edge in auto-xing, but i dave i think a better compro would cars in the auto stock class

AutoX is a perfect example of where the DRIVER is more of a key component to fast times than the CAR. The same car with different drivers will come across the line with times that are sometimes amazingly different.

And as Daveg27 said "Are you kidding?? There's TONS of cars that have autocross capabilities comparable (and better) to the S2000."

Miata's eat my lunch at Auto-X's all day...

There's a Civic that is a$$ spanking quick at the Auto-X that routinly smokes all of the S2000s.

MANNNY cars are better than ours in Auto-X, but ultimately it comes down to the driver.... For a change its not rev-up and dump the clutch, this actually takes skill.

Just go to:

http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2002/stockc.html

and you can see all the cars in the same class (B-Stock). Plus, there will be a bragging rights shootout in a couple of months where hopefully either Jason Siani, Mack or one of the other S2000 autocrossers will bring home the title for us S2k owners!!

I know there are plenty of cars that are faster than S2000's in an autocross, but I was looking for something with about the same capabilities. Boxters might be a good idea. Unless we set up the course with a ton of tight turns and no straights, C5 vettes would kill us. I might actually look into miatas, too. Ive never driven one, would they compete pretty well with us?
