Ideally you want a car with a lot of grunt on the low end for drifting.

drifting is pointless, just extra wear and tear and makes you slower in road races.

I was just having this conversation with my dad last night and drfting makes no sense at all. I can apreciate it and that it is impressive...but makes no sense.

yea I did quote the wrong person. There are many techniques to drifting. Power oversteer is only one of them, and a very basic technique. Most of the advanced pro drifters do not even use power oversteer but instead they use weight transfer techniques such as the feint drift or the scandinavian flick, or brake drifting. Like JL 9000 said after shifting the weight to the front and relieving the rear end of the weight, only slight throttel adjustment is used to maintain the drift. This is how pro drifters do it at least. For beginners, it is recomended to start with the ebrake, then move onto power oversteer, then onto more tricky ones like brake and feint drifts. In terms of drifting not making any sense, there are two different types of drifting. There is the drifting that is done in shows, the full sideways exciting action drifts, and there is another type called high speed drift. If you know how to use high speed drift, it can be effective, although I dont know if its more or less effective than regular grip driving.
