Well, I have had Sparcos, Mugen, and Spoons. I can tell you for a 6ft person the Spoons fit really nice. They sat really low. I have a full cage and bucket seats is the only way I can go now.
The Mugens are more narrow in the back portion than the Spoons. The Sparcos were just to big and bulky and fell apart with barely any use/abuse. I would go with Spoons or Recaros.

I have kinda the opposite problem. I'm a smaller guy and I find that I swim in the OEM seats during spirited driving. I end up sliding around on the leather.

I suppose another option would be seat covers, but I don't love the way they look.

The Recaro SPG is side mount, not bottom mount as mentioned a couple places earlier. Works well with the Taitec sliding rails.

Ultrashieldrace.com makes a Spec Miata aluminum seat that can be wider as it has no shoulder wings...instead wraps around the chest. Mine is the eighteen inch model.
I added a little more cushion.
Mine is bolted to the floor for head room...I am 6'5" tall. The seat is also custom heigth for my torso...about 4" more.
I am sure a side mount could be used. Ultrashield, like Kirkey, recommends that the seat be attached to a roll bar up higher and a picture of the seat attached to my Elda Bar is shown as well. The upper mount bracket is sold by Jegs.com.
This is a great solution for track cars with roll bars...especially for taller or wider drivers.

I've had a good deal of experience in a Spoon seat equipped car, including on-road driving and several laps on a race track.

First off, they dump you pretty low in the car. This is a really good thing for taller people like me. I'd say you get at least 2" lowering, possibly closer to 3". The seats are spacious and don't crush your rib cage like the Bride seats I sampled.

On the road, if you hit a big enough bump, the possibility is there that you will bottom out the thin padding and your ass will hit the carbon fiber shell. This isn't the most comfortable feeling, but it is a rare occurence.

I'm considering going with Recaro SP-G seats with either Backyard Special brackets or Taitec brackets. I am waiting to try these out in the next month or so before I make my decision.

They are cheaper than the Spoons, because they are not CF, and are of a high quality. They also fit the S2000 well. I may have mine retrimmed in leather:

These pics are of a JDM spec SP-G which may or may not be slightly different.

Anyone familiar with the VIS carbon seat?

I purchased a copy of the most recent sport compact car with the seat review. They have it listed at an MSRP of $399, however, the price I saw on it was $499. Big difference. Just curious if anyone had any experience with it.

The article on seats is so-so, although they do have feedback on 75 different seats from a group of 5 testers. Kind of interesting to read their comments.
