Actually, they can just give you a new code. I had a 98 Accord repossessed from an ex and she wouldn't give me the keys, and the copy I had didn't work cuz I didn't know it needed a code. I went to the dealership, and they gave me new keys. I had to have the car towed to get it there.

My friend with and ITR does that, i was thinkin if i should to. If somone knows you well enough like where you park your car to go to work or where you leave it for a long time. They could easily get a replacement key and just drive away. The chances of that are probably very slim, but theres always a chance.

It is against the law in MA to obscure the VIN on any vehicle, may even be a felony believe it or not, can't rember right now. I don't know about any other states...

I know a S2000 owner that had to replace her set of lost keys and the dealer said that the car has to be there to do it. If not, no keys. And I'm on a first name basis with the Service Manager there.

yup you need to tow your car there w/ proper ID of ownership...think it cost about $230 to reprogram and you get three keys...two regular keys adn one grey reprogram key...who ever cut and program the keys are logged in a data base i think, so anything happen they can trace back to

if the thieve really want our cars, carjack or tow

one good tip on the subject of jarjacking is to always make sure you have plenty of room between you and the car ahead of you at a red light, in case you need to take off quickly and get away. Not much can be done about towing I guess.

If anyone is paying $230 to get a key and having it programed I'll be glad to have keys made and programed for $100. I'll even include free next day air shipping.

Who ever gave the dealers a license to steal? Seriously I only pay $23 to have a key made/programed by a dealership here in Louisville.
