Do you guys use the oem locknut
I was wondering if you guys used or disregarded your oem locknut when you installed your aftermarket shift knobs? I've read a lot of posts of people saying to leave it off because you don't need it. So when I got my J's knob last week I decided to try it both ways. With the locknut off the knob sits very low, similar to the RX8. It also looks a lot better but, the only problem is that for my shifting style I need more leverage for the shift, thus more room on the shifter. So I tried it with the locknut on the knob. It sits slight lower than stock and has the same amount of leverage, but sometimes I think that the knob isn't threaded to the shifter enough and that it feels loose. It could just be in my head though. I then decided to check the J's cars and see if they used it or not. Turns out J's Racing uses the locknut...

So what do you guys think? Locknut or no locknut?

I have the CR knob with the nut, but I really want to try it without. What would you guys use to keep it in place?
I definitely do not use it. My knob seat s a good bit lower when the nut is not in place and is still perfectly tight and does not move at all. I have no shift pattern etched in that might require the lock nut to position it correctly however.

I took mine out with the stock shift knob, it allows it to sit lower. I like the feeling better, but now I want a heavier knob.
try blue loctite if you don't want to use the nut---put a few drops on the threads and screw the shift knob on to where you want it and let it dry overnight--will hold tight but it will come off later if you need it to
(make sure you use the blue not the red loctite----the red requires heat to loosen it--the blue just requires some force)
