Does everyone here perform their own oil changes or take it to the dealer? I'm due for my 3750 and don't really trust the honda dealership. I asked the service manager what weight oil they use on an S2000 and he said 5W30. I told him the cap said 10W30. He made up some BS. What should I do? Should I at least have them perform the first one? If I decide to perform it myself is there anything I need to be aware of? Thanks for the help.

I do my own because it is more convenient for me. I also use 5W30.

Kwando,

Yep...I do mine. Please get some jack stands if you plan to do yours. They are only $9.00 at Orielly...you will find some cool oil catches there also.

cdelena,

How come you use 5W 30?

Isn't the correct oil grade 10W30? Are there any tricks to getting the plug or filter off? And I guessing Mobil right Phantom?

When changing the oil do you jack up only the front or must you keep car level and jack up rear?

William,

I just jack up the front and let all the oil leak out.

When all the oil is pretty much done, I pour in a little bit of oil to "wash out" the old oil.

When I change mine I use Red line, and jack up all 4 corners to keep the car level. Filter is easy to remove, plug is also a snap. I use 5w30 because Scott at King told me to. I also changed to a Canton reuseable oil filter (cartridge system). I have only changed my oil once though, after my head removal.

You guys are way to energetic. I just drive the car onto a couple of 2X6's and that enough room to clear the drain pan.

You can change the oil without jacking up the car. The oil filter can be reached from above and the plug can be removed from the passenger side with three extentions on a socket wrench. In Colorado, you might want to go 5-30 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer. When the car has about 7000 mi you might want to switch to synthetic.

The lower viscosity allows faster flow on cold start when much wear occurs. It is a hair thinner at temperature which reduces pumping losses. I believe the sheer strength is adequate and don
