Do you think the S2K can out accelerate a Civic w/o VTECing?

After reading a few articles (edmunds.com, etc.)about the lack of power the S2K has when not in VTEC range and comparing it to a civic w/o VTECing, I was pondering this question. I was also bothered by it. (Edmunds constantly compared it to a Miata when not VTECing)
I used to have a '98 Civic EX and let me say that I believe the S2K would out accelerate the Civic EX to 60 mph and probably have a lower 1/4 mile time without hitting VTEC.
Any opinions?

My fiancee has a 00 Civic 4 dr which the S2000 will easily beat without VTEC-ing no problem. I think it would most likely beat a Civic Si without going into VTEC because the S has a lot more torque than the Civic. I dusted a Miata but by not very much one day on the way to work from a stoplight(no traffic, no high speeds obtained) by shifting at just 6 or 7000 rpm so I know that's at least do-able

Assuming nothing is installed (ie. supercharger, turbo, New Engine) can I remind you guys that as great as a civic is it's a family economy sedan. Come on guys?!!! What's going on here? Can a Porsche 911 or Corvette C5 or BMW M Roadster beat a civic without putting too much power into it?? Just because our Stooks are Honda's doesn't mean they drive like one. Geez....sorry a little flustered

My brother has a '99 Si with exaust and intake, and I was curious about the same questions. I had to shift at 6500-7000 to match his speed...

The next time anyone goes to the track, please run your car with no vtec! Sure you might be harassed if an escort beats ya but it would be very interesting to know.
My peronal best is a 14.02 at 99.5 mph. That was last year with 2500 miles and on that crappy break-in oil and a clutch that really wasnt broken in yet either. I'll probably go once or twice this year to try and break 13s.
