On the street it's pretty pointless, IMO. On the track is a whole 'nother story. The Modifried Redline Beeper rules the wasteland. It not only gives you warning to shift before you hit the rev limiter (which upsets the balance of the car), but it also lets you know how soon you have to shift. In low gears it is "beep, beep, beep, beeeeeeep" really fast, but in high gears it is "beep" ... "beep" ... "beep", letting you time your shift easily.
A couple track days ago my redline beeper stopped working (fuse) and I suddenly realized how much of a help it is. I kept slamming into the rev limiter in multiple spots around the track.
It also helps you judge your performance, because if it beeps earlier than the last lap then you are going faster.

Absolutely, the Modifry shift beeper is a great mod! 
It also supports other functions; Among other things, it records the highest RPM reached, and has an optional valet mode.
On autocross courses I have found that counting the beeps sharpens my timing on the course and improves my consistency. As someone else noted, it is also impossible to bang the rev limiter unexpectedly, and there is never any need to devote any attention to the tach, because the beeper tells you exactly where you're at, at any given moment. The beeper makes it very easy to hit every (AP1) shift at 9,000-9,100 RPM without ever activating the fuel cut. The RPM memory also provides a quick check any time a mechanical over rev is suspected.

Guess those that can see the road and the tach at the same time have better peripheral vision than I do or they don't worry about the person ahead.
Also the tach starts to blink too close to the redline to suit me and I like the "you're getting close...get ready" early warning beeps you get with the Modifry unit.

On public roads you also need to watch other cars coming towards you.
With a shifter beeper its possible to keep your eye on them (while overtaking others) and listen to the beeper telling when to shift.
2 different inputs.
