Lowering the car doesn't just lower the CG. It changes the geometry of the suspension and static track, roll center, aerodynamics, steering geometry (sometimes)...I'm sure there are others too. And it also changes the driver position which can have an effect on the perception of the cars motion.

This is all assuming that the balance of the car doesn't change - that both ends are taken down proportionally (not necessarily equally if the f/r ride heights were different to start). If it does, than there will be even more affects.

 

Just a thought: A fairly inexpensive way to lower the car and keep the handling characteristics in check would be www.ground-control.com, go with their coil over package combined with Koni Yellows. Or just use the stock shocks with the adjustable perches and Eibach rate specific springs(400.00).
