Does the S2000 give you an attitude?
Can I be honest for a second (makes me sound generally dishonest, but I'm not...it's just a figure of speech)? I find myself being totally different driving different cars...
The other day I get off of work and I'm walking to my car and I pass a late 80's Buick somethingorother and I pause...would I "walk" the same way to my car if I was walking to this Buick instead of my silver beauty? No, I wouldn't...I'm sure I put more in it (think John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever...haha). This gets me thinking (a dangerous proposition to be sure). I'm not a stuck-up person at all, just a genuine car-guy, but maybe I do give a little attitude when I'm in or even around the Stook (like standin' by her at the strip on Saturday night)...no, I'm sure I do [insert flame here]. I'm also sure I give the fellas drivin' other cars that "look" like "you wish you had this ride...dont' you" (cause' they do...haha, and besides...they've been givin' me that look for years), and I definitely give the ladies that "look" like..."waaazzzzuup" (I'm single), and I don't think I'd do that if I owned the affore mentioned Buick. This is perfectly natural of course, but I was never aware of it until recently. Am I the only one?

I second this... I give off an "I'm single" vibe to cute female passers/drivers-by now.
But I don't walk up to my car any differently, nor do I give the "you wish you had this car" look. I think it does a karma good to have a car like this but still be humble about it and be impressed with other people's rides (or at least pretend to be).

You single guys are all alike. You all just use the S2k to cover up your faults and insecurities. And if I were single too, I would do the same thing.
I don't have a walk. I don't need one, 'cause I'm happily married.

The car has given me confidence but I would say that it's made me cocky or given me an attitude in a negative sense. If anything, I feel pretty mellow when I drive it. I don't have a care in the world. There is also a good feeling of NOT having to prove yourself, people know the car is fast and I get pumped up by showing some restraint, and not racing every punk that revs. next to me. I recently infuriated a guy in an A4 2.8 Turbo (you read it right, not an S4, not a 1.8T) because I wouldn't race him! He kept revving up beside me, letting me hear his blow-off valve. Gave me a big grin that I didn't give in to him.

The S2k is definately a state of mind. When I walk toward mine, I always admire her beauty. I don't think Buick owners, in general, regard their cars this way. When I walk up to my washing machine or dryer, I regard them as an appliance, much the same way as I would imagine a Buick owner regards his/her ride/appliance. A Buick is definately a transportation appliance.

Well...yes, I suppose. I drive faster, by at least 5 - 10 MPH. Add another 5+ MPH since I got a radar detector. I'm very rarely envious of other cars whose prices are <$100K. I look back wistfully whenever I have to park it. I see murderous red when I read stories of people who got keyed or had their antenna stolen. I'm in a "Formula One" trance often when driving and I can't wait for the next Auto-X. I feel relatively unique, except when driving at a stook-meet with 39 other stooks (hard on the ego).
Some days I put on the shades, load up some hard rock, and all is right while the world blurs by.

I feel that the S2000 has developed my sense of confidence as an owner of a serious road machine. I wouldn't call it cockiness since there's always someone with a faster car out there, but more like a sense of accomplishment. It's like when you meet your best friend for the first time. The S2000 is like our soul wrapped in metal. Never before have I ever owned such a car. It's near perfection makes me giddy every time I get behind the steering wheel. Walking away from it, I often turn around to gaze at it in awe. How did I ever get so lucky to own such as work of art?
While I admired them from afar, I also used to be somewhat jealous of other guys with their exotic machines. Now I'm at incredible ease. Somehow, with our little $32,000 autos, we have managed to bridge the exotic gap and now live in the world of high performance, mechanical perfection and intoxicating thrill that comes with ownership of a true sports car. With this much blessing, it's hard to cop an attitude with the less fortunate.
So I smile at the Buick owners and wish them well.
Hopefully, one day, they will find their S2k.
