Does the S2000 give you an attitude?

The S2000 isn't nearly exotic, fast, or good looking enough to give me any sort of attitude.

I'm not completely enamored with its looks. It's a little too narrow. The back's a little too bulgy. There's no torque down low. The stock tires and rims are a bit undersized/oversized. I wish the top didn't need a cover when down.

It was more about timing and price for me. Even with all these shortcomings, I still like it a lot. However, no additional attitude on my part.

In response to Kduke's remark about the Miata as a "College Chick" car, why is that so? I personally own a 2001 and as far as I know, no "college chick" has a miata around here. Is it because it's slower than the Stook? Just an interesting observation....

To be honest, my Miata gives me a similar attitude when driving it, as I'm sure whoever owns a car they love carries one. S2K owners, Miata owners, Supra owners, WRX owners, Civic owners. Basically, as long as you know you are happy with your car or you feel "above others" with what you're driving, you are bound to carry some attitude. What happens when you see a car which you feel is better than the Stook drive by? Does your attitude or ego suddenly drop to rock bottom? Then it's not the Stook that gives you that attitude anymore is it? It's the fact that you know you are driving a superior car to those around you, in which case you could never really be happy until you own a street legal CLK-GTR.

Im 21 years old. On average, everyone else my age is driving cars 1/4 the price of mine. The only S2000 that is in my University carpark. I'm in the countries premeir car club that only "elite" cars can join. More females have sat in the car that a toilet seat. Ingredients to make the ultimate asshole....

Really though, it's quite something to have a car like the S2000 at such a young age like mine. Yeah, many jelous people around too... There are about less than 100 S2000's in the whole country here in new zealand, most snapped up by wealthier working class...

You be surprised how many ppl think I am showing off just because I love the drive with the top down even on cold nights... No doubt the S2000 is a beautiful car... You dont need to flaunt it any further with an "attitude" to be noticed...

the car does envoke an attitude.. i'm definately a more aggresive driver then i was in the old civic. cause there is stuff i can do in the car.. i simply couldn't before.

there is a definate sense of pride i have driving around.. knowing what i've accomplished just by being at the wheel. it may be pocket change to some other owners.. but for me it meant saving every penny for a year.. being on a waiting list for 7 months.. and proving an ex-gf wrong .. gettting my dream car.. next to the ferrari modena spider of coarse.

also i don't know if other young owners get this.. but i get this alot.. driving around having people like at me like 'that spoiled punk'. young kid in a nice car.. knowing that they are thinking i was given the car.. and knowing how different the expression on there face would be if they knew the truth.. so i laugh at them.

another thing.. sometimes gets to me.. when girls are interested.. that wouldn't be if i didn't have 32k worth of metal around me.. but who cares.. i'm not lookin for a keeper yet.

guess i'll get a beater.. for first dates when i get around to wife hunting.

Let me preface my response by admitting that my wife and I bought our S2000 as an unabashed attempt to jointly hold our mid-life crisis in abeyance. She could have had an affair with a golf pro, but she hates golf. I could have bought a Harley Davidson, but I have a pathological fear of head trauma. So the use of the term "College Chick" stems more envy than dimunition.

I can only say that, empirically, my observation in Southern California is that there are a fair number of coeds that drive Miatas. To be fair, there are also a lot of "College Dudes." It probably has something to do with the fact that it is generally sunny and warm here (condusive to a roadster), the cars are good looking, and the are deemed to be semi-hip, fun, and relatively affordable.

When you consider that the Miata was the first ray of light in the roadster renaissance, we all owe Mazda a vote of thanks. If the Miata had not come along to challenge the industry, there might not be a BMW Z3, Boxter, S2000, or MR-2 (well, maybe we can do without the MR-2).

Of course, this is what we have experienced in the US. A wide range of government regulations, i.e, bumper heights, headlight configuration, safety equipment, crash-worthiness, emissions controls, etc. all helped to drive the first wave of affordable enthusiast sports cars away. Triumph, MG, Austin Healy all vanished in the Mid '70s here. If a wider range of affordable sports cars continued to flourish in Australia, then there may be more choices available to the scholarly women of Oz. Or, maybe they are just more practical.

No offense meant. Miatas Rule!

If I can, I sit near a window when I go out to eat, just so I can watch my baby. I think the S2k is beautiful inside and out. If I didn't, I'd just stick with my CRX. I must say that it does give me an attitude though. However it's a different kind of attitude than I used to have. It's more of a respectful attitude. Before, when I had my CRX, it was ALL SHOW AND GO! and damn it, I had to prove it to everybody! Now with the S2k, It looks good, it handles good and it's pretty darn fast, so I really don't have anything to prove to anybody. However, I'll never pass up an oportunity to school some young ricers who have my old kind of attitude

Actually this used to be my email signature at work 2 years ago (to let everyone know how much of a S2K fanatic I was and that I was gonna do anything to get one). It's got my company logo on the passenger door, company name on the license plate, and the colors of the different departments in development. See?
