I work at an Acura dealership and for fun I wanted to see what my highest RPM was since I overreved once. The PGM tester we use couldn't pull it up, but it could for the RSX's. Honda should use the same thing right?

I know it can pull up highest speeds for sure.
Because about 6 yrs ago they had this stuff installed in civics.
A guy came in to get service the same time as me and he had a mod. civic ex.
He said his vtec wasn't engaging and they told him he was low on oil.
Also called him the 99mph guy.

It only records 'recent' data right? It won't remember that one time I toped her out last year and have zero plans on repeating. Or would it keep the most 'extreme' numbers tucked away Ie fastest ever taken vs. fastest taken in the last X days ?

Thanks
Steve

I thought it only recorded data when the "check engine light" came on.

Both testers only records data for DTC's. - RSX and Civic Si PCM's have a overrev detection built in - This is because of all of the drivers that have overeved them. Early RSX PCM flash did not have this feature. SO If you have an RSX or a Civic Si (new model) the PCM will store a DTC and record max revs. The DTC is not in any troubleshooting, it is only there to verify why the engine has bent valves. S2000's don't have this built into the PCM programming.

Does anyone know if the 06 models do, cause I got a bent valve and the dealership is real reluctant to say anything until they get word back from Honda Technical.

The 06 S2k has a reflashable PCM, like the RSX. I'd almost guarantee the 06 will store a unlisted DTC for Max RPM turned.

does the 04+ ECU store a DTC only when a CEL is thrown, or is this a constant thing?

Any time the CEL is on a DTC is stored along with the freeze data at the time of the DTC.

^Clear as mud.

Anyway, my owner's manual for my RX-8 had a type of disclosure sheet in it saying that it did record all kinds of data and was used to improve crash safety and reliability. It was just a loose page inserted like they got sued or something and had to start disclosing this right away.

I think for 08 they're putting in a beverage detection sensor to check how hot your Starbucks is and for how long you leave it in the cup holder. They will use this data to determine if coffee temp and duration can be linked to snap oversteer.
