Default Does the S2000 need premium gas?

Premium gas? Regular? Mid-grade?

Just wondering. I always assumed the S2000 took premium (based on the HP per liter) but did not notice anything about it in the literature.

My BMW daily driver and the 'vette both take the expensive stuff and I was thinking if I could VTEC on regular that would be a big plus

Thanks,

Dennis

Look on the inside of your fuel filler door and you'll see that it takes Premium. With a high compression engine like this, make sure you use it to help prevent any detonation problems.

91.5 or higher is what is required.

I always use Sunoco Ultra 94

You should put the recommended octane. High compression engines require higher octane. High octane gasoline is more stable at high pressure so that it would not spontaneously ignite from the heat created by the compression of the gas/air mixture; you don't want this to happen for best performance.

Thanks for the replies,

I was hoping you weren't an owner (I saw you are an enthusiast, but some enthusiasts are also owners). I was ready to tell you to read your manual for the type of fuel. I always use Sunoco Ultra 94 as well.

Use premium. If you accidently put in lower octane the car will be ok, but you shouldn't make it a habit.

I've read (can't recall where) that it will run OK on mid-level gas, but will not make as much power. The engine computer will compensate for the lower octane. It is NOT a recommended practice.

Damn, where do guys get 91+ Octane gas?? I usually fill up at a Mobil or Chevron that carries 91 as its highest octane. Are you guys buying gas from race shops???
