Don't know about the rest of the country, but in Houston Sam's Club sells 93 octane at or below the mid level prices. Costco does the same. They don't carry mid level (89-91 octane) at these places.

They are different octane measurements so the numbers in the US are not comparable to the rest of the world . Europe uses the RON measurement where in the US it is AKI which is (RON + MON / 2), and it will always be a lower number as the MON test drags down the average.

This octane debate was in another thread recently. CA can't get higher than 91 for patent reasons. No stations wanted to pay UNOCAL I think to license a higher grade.

I use 93 octane because it is available here at the same price or cheaper than the 92 octane. No Sunoco 94 here unfortunately

I use a blend that brings me to about 95.2 octane (see my signature below).

Here is another link to read as well...

Hi cdelena,

thanks for that answer. I didn't know that there are two different ways of measuring the same thing.

BTW: Happy Birthday and all the best for your third year in the club !!

A magasine here in Greece did a comparison Test between Shell V-power 95 and Shell V-Power 99. 0-100 Mph 14.9 with 95 Oct and 14,6 with 99 Octane. So the S2000 proved not sensitive to different Octane ratings.

Some will take the 3/10th's of a second and use the 99, but cost comparison... hmmm not really worth it unless you know you are going to run or hot summer day.
