Does the S2000 really draw that much attention ?

If you seek attention, get the Porsche Boxster. If you want performance, then get the S2000. The regular Boxster, not the S, is about the same as the S2000.

I guess the question that should be asked is why do you need a car that attracts attention? I think that there is some need here that is probably best addressed through psychological therapy than through automobile ownership. But if you still want a car that attracts attention, get yourself a Viper or some other "tiny dick" car. That will probably compensate for your shortcomings more effectively than the S2K. Or you could turn your S2K into a lowrider, with ground effects lighting, a huge trunk woofer (with the sound cranked way up so everyone will notice) and flame decals trailing down the side. I've found that the decal of a demented woodpecker holding a cigar clenched in its beak and fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror are also good attention-getters, so you might consider those as well.
I haven't found that the stock S2000 is a huge attention-getting car. Most people just aren't that attuned to cars, and you are more likely to have people assume that your S2000 is a Miata than anything. The majority of people who come up to me and say "Nice car!" are middle-aged, middle-class guys. On the plus side, although I drive over the speed limit on a regular basis, I have yet to be ticketed in the Honda, although I regularly got stopped in my white Neon. Go figure.
I drive the car because it satisfies me as a driving experience. I really don't need the thrill of exhibitionism -- the driving experience is a big enough thrill for me. Your needs are clearly different, but are probably better served by a different vehicle.
