Does the S2000's relative obscurity reduce its
bragging opportunities? I know we're not a bunch of elitists here (not a Rolls Royce among us), but isn't part of the fun of owning a wonderful sports car like the S2k the ability to share its unique characteristics with friends, associates and the occasional stranger?
How well can that be done when no one can even recognize the car?

I've found that most people who express an interest in the car have no idea what it is. Just be patient, the admiring looks and questions will come. Unfortunately, the stook seems to be most easily recognized by 16-year old boys. The imporant thing to remember is that you know what you've got, can appreciate its attributes and can rest assured that there are others out there who know and appreciate, too.
I have mixed feelings about this.
The car is so rare and is so technically advanced it's practically an exotic.
On the other hand, you have to hate it when people ask what you drive and you, wanting to make an impression, get nothing but a blank stare when you say "S2000." Face it, saying that it's a Honda does not help establish the prestige that this car deserves.
I guess that's when you take them for a test drive

Yeah, it's kind of annoying when you tell people you have a Honda S2000 and all they hear is Honda blah blah blah. But when they see it, their expressions change. I wish pictures could do it justice...they look a million times better in person!

Same thing happens when I tell people what kind of motorcycle I have (Honda RC-51).
I can say this tho, at the recent San Francisco Auto Show, the S2000 always had a crowd around it. Not even the porsches two stands over had that many people clamering about them.
BTW, I hope to join the S2k ranks if my purchase gcompletes this friday. I'll post pics when it's in my possession after I take my flight and do my 13hr drive back home.
-loki,
soon to be S2k owner.

I like it when people ask what kind of car I drive. The modest person in me likes to just say "a Honda". If they ask what kind I tell them a S2000. If they ask what it is, I tell them a little two seat convertable. I guess I could tell them it is the best Honda ever made and then go on to tell them it cost $32,000, but I don't.
When I had my E36 M3 I always hated saying " I drive a BMW" or even worse when they asked which one.

The one I like is:
"So Ed, I hear you've bought a sports car - what is it?" they ask enthusiastically.
"It's a Honda" I reply.
"Oh" they say in a let down, 'you poor deluded fool' kind of way.
Later they see it.
I hit the revs to 9k, and smile, smile, smile..........
