Thumbs up Does your s2k feel dated now?

I sold my s2k 9+ years ago and haven't logged onto to the forums in about the same amount of time. I've been in the market for a new FK8 but I stumbled on a really good deal on an 06 AP2 (nfr) with low mileage but have been having reservations in regards to picking it up. My reservations are mostly about the age of the car and the fact that it may seem outdated compared to other newer cars (civic type r). So my question to you guys is, does your s feel outdated or aged now?

I don't really think about those things, as I have a ton of fun driving the car.

I have a MY00 and a MY07. They're both outdated.

The S2000 was out dated by the time the year 2003 rolled around. No infotainment, no seat heaters, no memory seats, no etc etc etc.

I wouldnt worry whether the S2000 is outdated or not. That's preposterous to even question.

Its outdated AF, bruv. Trust. No doubt. A dinosaur could probably familiarize itself with a S2000.

The proportions and seating position and dash give away that its ancient. But, on the surface...the design and looks of it still holds up to modern standards. Its athletic enough to DRIVE like a car that was designed in modern times...but it doesn't drive in a modern way (if that makes sense).

S2000's are like the "missing link" between ape and human. Under the skin, the architecture is "new style". But its a relic.

But I bought mine 13 years ago when I had an easy option to buy a 350Z or something else sporty (and cheaper) that DID have all that junk.

All of those other cars have faded into the background.

S2000's are still relevant and a lot of people are genuinely overjoyed when they see one driving around.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not some cave dweller. I think modern cars are great too. I love modern tech.

It just depends on the driving experience you're looking for. Drive both. Obviously the FK8 is easier to live with.

I'm sure you can certainly make a connection with a FK8.

For me, my S2000 would be difficult to live without.

Hey thanks for that response. It put a lot into perspective and brought back fond memories of driving the S.

Put it this way - I bought an FK8 over a year ago for the practicality (as an addition to the stable). I'm pretty over it, and was never in love with it as I was with the S.

Ended up wrecking the S, bought another one as soon as I could to replace it. Whereas I currently can't wait to upgrade/get rid of the FK8 as a daily... it's boring AF and creature comfort wise not much better than the S. My 2c... although I am one of those people that feel like they will keep their S2000 forever lol

A big part of the S2000's appeal to me is it's clean design and clear sense of purpose. It is not trying to be anything more than a basic sports car and it really delivers on that mission.

Outdated things are typically thought of as being obsolete and the S2000 certainly does not meet this definition. On the other hand I can understand how it can be seen as dated as it does not feature an infotainment system, seat warmers, seat coolers, a plethora of charging ports or any number of other items people are looking for in their vehicles in this day and age. Ironically, I think that it is the car's lack of these very things that helps keep the S2000 a valid and desirable option in the eyes of many enthusiasts. Dated or not, it really comes down to what you are looking for from the car and if the experience it provides appeals to you.

I much prefer the older cars. The new cars are going downhill.

I can sense a dilemma if you only have one car. My S2000 doesn't feel any more dated than any roadster. Comparing it to a 4-door sedan (like the Civic R) will show differences inherent in the design types. I've been down the roadster-as-only-car road several times and won't go down it again but that's a different subject.

Lots of gizmos are absent from the S2000 due to deliberate minimalist design. Heck, even my Ford Expedition has heated/cooled memory seats and pedals, and navigation built into the dashboard. Plus automatic headlights which also come on with the wipers. And can fit a 4'x8' sheet of plywood in the back. Every so often I'm reminded there's a radio hiding under the S2000 dash. Car ads no longer refer to the car, they refer to the gizmos.

Was always raised that if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it. IMO, this car is amazing and maybe, just maybe, Bluetooth might be of assistance for me since I am urban.

You can have a really bad day and get in the S, top down and it all melts away. I love manuals and I grew up driving since my foot would touch the floor. Learned to drive on an old Ford tractor in a corn field. My grandpa would not let me out of 2nd gear! Call it nostalgic or whatever you want, I loved it then and love it now. Guess they would have to take my left leg, lol.

Each of us have our preference and I respect all.

Thank you all.
