well after installing my hardtop i decided to remove the black tape along the windshield frame. to my surprise i found that the finish under the tape does not match the rest of the car. it looks as if it missed one of the paint processes and looks exactly like the paint finish inside the gas filling door! i also noticed that there are some scratches on it too. what should i do? has anyone with a spa yellow experienced this? where can i get black tape again if i decide to put it back?

Sorry to hear about your problem. You are not the first person to experience this. Last guy that had the problem had it painted by the dealer. You will have to pay for this out of your own pocket I believe as Honda did not want the tape removed.

You may want to take some of the suggestions offered on this forum with a grain of salt before you do something like this again. A few other people have reported leaks and such so all is not always perfect with the tape removal as you have so recently and unfortunately found out.

Although, It is very highly doubtfull that the tape has anything to do with leaks. Black cars don't come with the tape and they don't leak.
Jay Li had a similar problem. I'm sure he will be around in a bit.

do not know about leaks, but I did have to paint mine too. I also have Yellow, and yours will be the third I have herd of that has had this problem. I say it looks good enough that it was worth it. You can get the tape from Honda as it is a Honda "part." If Honda did not want it removed then they should not have it in their advertising without the tape. My .02

I just noticed on my windshield boarder that some of it wasn't "clear coated"...I found some scratches also.

Didn't bother me before, and I don't think it will bother me now...

The paint finish inside my "gas filling door" is the same as the rest of the car. Did Honda get slack for 2001?

I don't have the Helm service manual to hand, but I'm fairly sure that there's a procedure in there which tells you how to replace the tape. If that's the case, you can probably order it and either do the job yourself, or have the service department do it for you; or just have them paint the frame the proper yellow. Whichever way you go, it's going to cost you $$$ to fix.

It may have been isolated to the Yellow color.
Since I know AutoEX also had his Yellow S2000 unfinished paint problem similar to yours.

It would be tough to match that yellow, couldn't you (rather, have someone) paint the windshield frame black?
