Default Door rattles... partial solution, but not perfect.

Having spent some time in BMWs, Mercedes, etc I was really longing for that luxurious sounding "thud" as conformation that A.) The door has been closed and B.) Said door belonged to a very nice car.

In an effort to achieve this I lined the door with dynamat extreme over the weekend, the sheet metal just inside the plastic panel and as much as I could get on the exterior sheet metal through the two holes.

For the money and time I spent I am pleased with the result, shutting the door with the window up it sounds more or less the way I want it to but with the window down it still rattles and sounds somewhat cheap; so since I've found that it's the glass in it's down state that is the culprit what are my options?

I seem to recall seeing a little foam pad inside the door that holds the glass somewhat steady, controlling how far in either direction in can sway... would a larger and/or more ridge foam piece be the solution? If not; what would get the job done?

Thanks in advance.

I want to take an 06 door apart - they have a much more solid thwump than the previous cars and I don't know why - maybe taking a peak will reveal something Honda did.

So you basically added weight to a lightweight roadster for no real reason?

BMW makes a roadster(330hp). It'd give you a good 'thud'. BTW, don't you think you're being a little OCD?

I think he gave a reason. And a good one at that. What are we talking about here? 3 lbs? Being a purist is one thing but you're just pickin' fly specs from pepper.

To make the door sound like it is hooked to a nice well built car:
a) swing the door gently within an inch or two of being closed.
b) gently close it the rest of the way.

The door will latch with a satisfying sound, you will be reminded of how precisely honda bolts their cars together, and the door and latch hardware will take less of a beating.

Do you really think the extra 3 lbs he added is going to make his car any slower? come on. unless you're racing your car and a 100th of second matters to you, adding this type of weight is going to have no perceptible effect.

Although I would have no interest in doing this to my car, I can understand the joy of trying to fix/improve little issues like this. Very rewarding when you get the results you want

I personally dont think its a good reason, and I have 100+lbs of extra electronic/stereo equipment in my car. The point is, this is a loud car. When you bought it, you know this. Things like lightweight doors are something that makes the car what it is. Sure you can add 50lbs of sound deadening material, but I think it robs of what this car is. The doors dont let any extra sound in. If you dynamat to get rid of some road noise, so be it, but for a nicer thud? Hey listen, if you are happy, its all good.

I wonder if the dealership would be upset if I started taking the door apart on the showrrom floor...
