Default Door Slots

What is the purpose of the slots on the back side of the door that covers the radio?

That was one of the first things my 14yr old discovered....he went straight for the radio and said "hey Dad, slots for your credit cards!"....
He's probably right....Also, Japan has many motorway toll gates that take cards of that size....good place to keep them.....

This has been debated and wondered about many times in the past, with no definitive answer ever given as far as I know. Some stick their sunglasses in there, others think it's simply reinforcement to make the door stronger. As I recall, when my car was new, there was some kind of protective felt in there to keep the radio face clean. Use the slots for whatever purpose suits you.

I use it to hold my parking card which I need to scan when I enter and exit my underground parking.
